Grace Daniel is a young girl, energetic and willing to learn. She stretches and strives to move beyond limitations. Grace had just rounded off her university education (at the National Open University, Nigeria) when she heard about WAVE. She decided to join the league of WAVE trainees, as one who aspired to be trained on soft skills to improve her self-worth in the labour market and seek employment opportunity.

Grace heard about WAVE from Anderson Uzoh; an alumnus who had passed through WAVE training program. Though she wasn't given detailed information about what the program entails, the opportunity to learn for employment pathway made her apply for the WAVE training program: 'The alumnus that invited me didn’t give the breakdown but I discovered on the first day of the program that we will be trained on soft skills. Although the first week was almost unbearable for me, I made up my mind to get something out of the program.'

Grace was trained at the Yaba academy and job-shadowed at Life Bank as a customer service representative. One of the outstanding skills learned at WAVE that she applied during the jobshadow  is communication skill. Even though emotional intelligence class was fascinating, communication skill, especially the nonverbal one, was what she applied most during the jobshadow. Quoting her, 'in symbols, postures and body language, you’re communicating. If you’re having a conversation with the clients on phone, the clients will understand whatever feeling you are going through from your voice. So communication is key and cannot be taken away.'

Describing the job-shadow experience, Grace uttered that 'it was awesome because Life Bank was a start-up firm so there wasn’t much stress.' Additionally, she was given a backlog of assignments; this made her acquire more knowledge.

Grace Daniel's dream job is to be a cabin crew.

Currently, Grace Daniel works as an operation representative at Life Bank; the same organization she job-shadowed at. She retained the job due largely because of her willingness to learn, hard work, teamwork, and communication skills.

Grace Daniel advises job seekers to have a clearer picture of what they want in life, be determined and go for their dream.

I really love the transformation that Wave is causing in the lives of the young people. Mary's experience just stands out. She is more equipped to live. This and more is what young girls especially need to compete favorably in Nigeria. Apart from the people that are in Lagos state, how can youths from other states participate in this training? How much does the training cost? Before I go, I really appreciate the leadership of West African Vocational Education. God richly bless you. Thank.
