After a missed job opportunity, a struggle to rebuild her confidence in public speaking, and feeling downcast, Pere Numa stumbled upon the WAVE leadership training on Instagram."

Intrigued that the training highlighted leadership and transformation, she decided to take a chance to join the training while she was also completing her master’s program at the time.

Pere vividly recalls the initial uncertainty she felt but decided to commit wholeheartedly to the training. The training delved into personal and professional development, covering topics such as system thinking, teamwork, leading a diverse team, and more.

Reflecting on her journey, Pere states, "The training brought out a part of me that had been buried for a long time. I used to own the stage while I was in school but something happened, and I lost it. I could not speak in front of people. But the training brought it back out because I decided that I wanted to be transformed."

For Pere, the training pushed her out of her comfort zone, encouraging her to speak up even when unsure of what to say. The emphasis on teamwork and interview preparation turned out to be crucial for Pere’s development. She shares, "Teamwork and the interview class stood out for me. I practiced in class even though I was terrified, but it gave me the confidence that I can do this if I put my mind to it."

After the training, Pere found herself armed with newfound skills and confidence. Three job offers came her way, and she credits the interview preparation from WAVE for her ability to navigate interviews with ease, transforming her from someone who used to freeze when asked questions to someone who now flows effortlessly during interviews.

The training also involved trainees participating in different community projects, as a means for them to create impact in their immediate environment. Pere’s group reached out to a school, teaching children about Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and sparking interest from external partners to continue the initiative.

Pere's story is one where her personal determination to grow and be better met the very opportunity it needed. She is now equipped to lead a diverse team, communicate effectively, and manage her time efficiently, and as she continues her journey, Pere emphasizes, "The WAVE training transformed me. If I am what I am today, I cannot imagine what the future holds. I am on the journey to become and WAVE has been a key player in that journey."

Her story is inspiring. I feel motivated. She is a young girl who at a tender age knows what she wants and she is working towards becoming her dreams.

I really love the transformation that Wave is causing in the lives of the young people. Mary's experience just stands out. She is more equipped to live. This and more is what young girls especially need to compete favorably in Nigeria. Apart from the people that are in Lagos state, how can youths from other states participate in this training? How much does the training cost? Before I go, I really appreciate the leadership of West African Vocational Education. God richly bless you. Thank.
