Chidinma Okoro, a 22-year-old living in Lagos, Nigeria, heard about the WAVE Online Call Center training at a crucial point in her life.

"Before WAVE, I felt stuck in my part-time role and unsure about my future," Chidinma reflects. "But WAVE showed me a path forward."

Before WAVE, Chidinma balanced part-time roles as a waitress, kitchen assistant, and fashion design student. Seeking practical skills and confidence to excel in her job, she eagerly enrolled in the WAVE training program after discovering it through a Facebook ad.

Despite facing network challenges, Chidinma found the WAVE experience enriching, with engaging classes and supportive facilitators ensuring she didn't miss out on valuable learning opportunities.

"Now, I feel more confident and capable in my job," Chidinma shares. "WAVE taught me skills like emotional intelligence and problem-solving that I use every day."

Currently, she works at Megiddo Gardens, and Chidinma delights in bringing smiles to customers' faces through exceptional service. Equipped with skills acquired at WAVE, such as emotional intelligence and problem-solving, she navigates challenges with ease and confidence.

"Seeing the smiles on people's faces when they get the services they paid for gives me satisfaction," Chidinma said. "And WAVE helped me make those moments happen."

She also shared an instance when she had to use the skills she has learned during the training in managing customers;

“I remember a time when a customer ordered something and there was a delay with his order, and he was in a hurry to leave and was a bit agitated.

Because of the emotional intelligence class at WAVE, I was able to speak calmly to him, and I got a positive feedback after that interaction. It made me see that allowing other people's actions to control me means I am a puppet to them, and I want to be my own person.

Even the problem-solving skills have made me more reliable at my job.

Beyond hospitality, Chidinma has ambitions of becoming a software engineer, inspired by her participation in our IT and Employability skills training.

Chidinma's advice to others considering similar training programs is straightforward: seize the opportunity. The experience goes beyond skill acquisition, fostering personal growth and opening doors to new possibilities.

"Put in the work, and you will definitely get the best," Chidinma advises. "WAVE changed my life, and it can change yours too. I have seen a positive change in my life ever since I came to WAVE, and you also get to meet people that would help you in your career path. This is something you cannot buy with money.”

Her story is inspiring. I feel motivated. She is a young girl who at a tender age knows what she wants and she is working towards becoming her dreams.

I really love the transformation that Wave is causing in the lives of the young people. Mary's experience just stands out. She is more equipped to live. This and more is what young girls especially need to compete favorably in Nigeria. Apart from the people that are in Lagos state, how can youths from other states participate in this training? How much does the training cost? Before I go, I really appreciate the leadership of West African Vocational Education. God richly bless you. Thank.
