Kingsley Onumara is a graduate of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka where he obtained a degree in Accounting. He heard about WAVE from a program on the radio. Shortly after he was introduced to WAVE, Kingsley travelled to his hometown to meet his parent in Owerri and, on getting back, he applied for the WAVE training.
Prior to WAVE, Kingsley worked at 11:72 Sewgull, Ikoyi as a customer service officer where he was introduced to the basic skills involved in fashion design.
In the course of WAVE training, his major challenge was the distance from his place to the training centre. He boarded four buses to the training venue, spent a thousand naira daily. As he said, "the training was mentally demanding; you have to be ready to contribute to discussions." Despite the challenges faced, his commitment to being trained kept him going and at the end, made him scale through.
Kingsley job-shadowed at 7 Eagle Restaurant at Ikeja City Mall, where he supported all the departments and applied the skills such as verbal communication, and customer service relationship learnt at WAVE. He was able to relate and communicate professionally with his colleagues, customers as well.
At the moment, Kingsley works as a direct sales agent at Susu Microfinance Bank, where he communicates and supports the bank to achieve its already-set goals. He hopes to enrol for a professional course, Institute of Chartered Accountant of Nigeria (ICAN), in the nearest future. His dream job is to work as an accountant in a reputable organization. When asked the skills or qualification needed to achieve his dream, Kingsley says: 'enrolling for ICAN will help in achieving the dream job.'
Now that he works, Kingsley supports his parents financially in his own little way. Citing examples from his experience towards enrolling for the training program, Kingsley’s advice to job seekers is 'to build yourself more and always try to be unique in all your doings.'Apply via our website @ www.waveacademies.org
